South African stand-in skipper Wiaan Mulder is on his way to becoming the highest individual run-scorer in Test cricket. His knock has propelled the Proteas to a mammoth 625 runs for five wickets at lunch on day 2 of the second Test. The Proteas declared the innings with Mulder playing the innings of a lifetime.
At lunch on day 2 of the second Test between Zimbabwe and South Africa in Bulawayo, he is just 34 runs short of surpassing Brian Lara's long-standing record of 400* against England in 2004.
Wiaan Mulder replaced Keshav Maharaj as the skipper of the South African side in their second Test and is nearing a historic feat in Test cricket. No other batter apart from Brian Lara has scored 400 or more in Test cricket and Mulder is on his way to eclipsing that.

Wiaan Mulder Breaks Multiple Records At Bulawayo
Mulder has already broken a few key records with his bat in Bulawayo. He has become the first captain to score 250, 300 and eventually 350 plus o his captaincy debut. He has now also become South Africa's highest individual run-getter in Test cricket surpassing the likes of Hashim Amla and Jacques Kallis in the lost.
Mulder had already posted the highest score ever recorded by a first-time Test captain by stumps on day one, and took the record for the highest score in South African history early on day two, surpassing Hashim Amla’s 311* vs England at Lord’s in 2012.
Highest individual scores in away Tests
367* - Wiaan Mulder (SA) vs ZIM, Bulawayo, 2025
337 - Hanif Mohammad (PAK) vs WI, Barbados, 1958
336* - Wally Hammond (ENG) vs NZ, Auckland, 1933
334* - Mark Taylor (AUS) vs PAK, Peshawar, 1998
334 - Sir Don Bradman (AUS) vs ENG, Headingley, 1930
Mulder surpassed the likes of Gary Sobers, Len Hutton, Sanath Jayasuriya, Wally Hammond in the list of top 10 highest individual run-getters in Test cricket. Incidentally, he is the youngest Test captain to score 300 in Test cricket at just 27 years. Mulder now has the highest aggregate by a South African batter in a Test, surpassing Graeme Smith’s 362 (277 & 85) against England at Edgbaston in 2003.
Already Mulder has posted the fifth-best score in Test history, behind Lara as well as Matthew Hayden (380 runs vs Zimbabwe in 2003), Lara again (375 runs vs England in 1994) and Mahela Jayawardene (374 vs South Africa in 2006). With South Africa declaring their innings, Muler remains behind these names as the highest individual run-getter in Test cricket. He did not go chasing behind Lara's 400.
Before Lara scored 400 runs* against England in 2004, he scored 375 runs against the same opposition in 1994. The former West Indies skipper's unbeaten 400 is also now in danger of being surpassed by Mulder who is surely aware of his upcoming record.
