Thakur played his last Test against South Africa in December 2023 in Centurion. However, his recent impressive performances in domestic cricket for Mumbai have made the selectors take note of his performance.
He was a late replacement call for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025 and has made a difference to the side since joining them as Mohsin Khan's replacement. He has picked up 12 wickets in nine matches since joining LSG this season.
