Former India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is reportedly eyeing a player-cum-coach role in overseas T20 leagues.
Ashwin confirmed his IPL retirement on Wednesday through a social media post. This ended his 16-year-long association with the league, which began with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2009 and ended in 2025. He also played for Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) in his IPL career. The announcement followed his decision to step away from international cricket earlier this year.
With no IPL or India duty, Ravichandran Ashwin now looks ready to explore new options. His experience along with his reputation as a master tactician make him a strong candidate for such roles.

After IPL Retirement, Ravichandran Ashwin Considers Player-Cum-Coach Stint in Overseas T20 Leagues - Report
The Cricbuzz report states that Ashwin has already attracted interest from several overseas leagues. The SA20 may not be an immediate option since he cannot register for the auction now. However, other tournaments remain open.
The ILT20 in the UAE, where five out of six franchises have Indian ownership, appears a strong possibility. Major League Cricket (MLC) in the United States and The Hundred in England are also being considered. The Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia has reportedly made contact too.
A player-cum-coach position is seen as ideal for someone like Ashwin because of his reputation for tactical thinking. He has years of experience and he can use that to his benefit.
