Moeen Ali has expressed his preference for Jasprit Bumrah to lead the Indian cricket team, while he referred to Shubman Gill as inexperienced for the upcoming tour of England.
As the India tour of England approaches, the announcement of the squad is imminent. With Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma having announced their retirement from the format, India is set to appoint a new captain, rumored to be Shubman Gill, with Rishabh Pant likely to be appointed as his deputy. Initial reports suggest that the squad announcement is expected around May 23 or May 24.

Moeen Ali Weighs In on India’s Captaincy Debate
Speaking on Sky Sports, former England all-rounder Moeen Ali stated his preference for Jasprit Bumrah to take on the captaincy instead of Shubman Gill. He emphasized that while Bumrah is a strong leader who has experience, concerns about his injury history may prevent him from leading the team throughout the series.
Moeen added that despite Gill's lack of experience with such a significant series, his good batting average and success leading the Gujarat Titans make him a suitable candidate. However, he acknowledged that leading India in English conditions will be challenging.
"I think they'll give the captaincy to someone who has performed well in Test cricket so far. Gill leads the Gujarat Titans in the IPL, so he has proven leadership qualities. He is inexperienced, yes, but a good captain with a good cricketing mind. Nevertheless, it will be a challenge in the English conditions," said Moeen Ali.

Shubman Gill will be touring England for the second time in his career. However, his average of only 29 in English conditions raises questions about his ability to elevate his game and successfully lead India against England.
