Gujarat Titans’ Jos Buttler, Gerald Coetzee Set to Return to India as BCCI Announces Revised IPL 2025 Schedule

Gujarat Titans’ Jos Buttler, Gerald Coetzee to Return to India

In a positive development for Gujarat Titans (GT), their overseas players Jos Buttler and Gerald Coetzee are slated to rejoin the squad on May 14, just days before the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) resumes on May 17, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

Buttler, the former England captain, and Coetzee, South Africa’s fiery pacer, had briefly returned home during the IPL’s hiatus, which began on May 9 after air raid alerts in nearby cities disrupted a match in Dharamsala.

Their return strengthens GT’s already formidable lineup, which has dominated the 2025 season with 16 points and is currently leading the point table.

Gujarat Titans Bolstered by Jos Buttler, Gerald Coetzee’s Return as IPL 2025 Nears Resumption

Jos Buttler, a key figure in GT’s batting order, is among the top run-getters this season, amassing 500 runs in 11 innings. His explosive batting has been pivotal to GT’s success.

Gerald Coetzee, meanwhile, adds depth to the bowling attack led by Prasidh Krishna, who has taken 20 wickets, the highest so far. In GT’s previous match versus Mumbai Indians, Coetzee smashed a six in the final over of the innings, helping the Titans gather an important win.

The Titans were the first IPL team to resume training after the suspension, with most players and staff remaining in Ahmedabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Unlike other franchises, which saw several overseas players, including Australians like Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, leave India, GT retained nearly all their foreign contingent.

While their other overseas players, Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada, and Karim Janat, will also be available, there is doubt over Sherfane Rutherford’s availability as he has been picked for the series against England, starting May 29.

BCCI Announces Revised Schedule for IPL 2025

The IPL’s resumption follows a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, announced on May 10. The BCCI has finalized a revised schedule, with the remaining 13 league matches set to be played across six venues in Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru.

The season will resume with the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 17. Qualifier 1 and Eliminator will be played on May 29 and May 30. Qualifier 2 is scheduled for June 1. The final is slated for June 3. The venues for the playoffs are yet to be announced.
